As we wrap-up 2018 and bundle those precious memories together with a bow, we’re sharing some of the meaningful moments that really set the year apart. Were there high hills and speed bumps? (A metaphor my husband Eric and son Evan like to use.) Yes. Without a doubt. But, do we close the year on a high note with a whole lot of gratitude? Indeed.

How about puppy kisses to celebrate 🙂
Meeting Linda Newman and a few of her beautiful canine companions, like these furry friends, at Points Unknown is a fond memory. Linda graciously collaborated with us on a holiday giveaway, and she invited me to visit her sustainable studio where she hand-makes Scent from Nature 100% Pure Beeswax Candles. If you’re ever in the Hovland neighborhood, be sure to stop by – or check out a dog sledding adventure!
Then there was that trip to Finland last summer. The legendary Trestle Inn served up delicious dinner paired with a homey, welcoming vibe. It was a true 100%-off-the-beaten-path adventure during the peak of blooming lupine.
A few things I learned in 2018…take more side roads.
It’s Ok to get lost…
Wake up early.
Meet more neighbors…like the fun-loving crew at Caribou Cream. Eric and I had a blast meeting Herb and Renae, the dynamic duo keeping an eye on things at the sugar shack where they produce Lutsen’s amazing maple syrup. They kindly joined in our festive holiday giveaway, too, and we even created a granola recipe inspired by the sweet flavors of their signature syrup!
And, a good reminder to set aside time to be together with those tried-and-trues who love you through and through.
Looking back at last summer’s highlights, these outtakes fill my heart: mini golf, World’s Best Donuts, hikes, pool time, s’mores, and more hikes. ♥
Over at 142C, our cozy condo at Caribou Highlands, we started offering guests complementary stamped postcards of the Lutsen area!
Minnesota’s September colors were just beautiful this year. Eric and I snapped a bunch of pics while we were chasing fall colors for this blog post.
We also had two special guest bloggers in 2018… Courtney & Jack , thank you for sharing your adventures with us!

And, Carson had the spotlight as well as part of our dog-friendly post 🙂
As we look ahead to 2019, wishing you the very best in health and happiness! I hope our paths cross at the intersection of wonder and adventure along the most beautiful expanse of shore & land, known as Minnesota’s North Shore ♥
Thank you, as always, for visiting. xo
