A hop and a hike, a skip and a ski hill away from condo 142C in Lutsen at Caribou Highlands, you’ll find beauty beyond measure from one season to the next… There are limitless places to explore, relax and experience adventure in Cook County, Minnesota along the North Shore. These visits to Lake Superior’s wonder over the last 12 years sparked the beginning this little blog, a place to share stories and highlight those people & places that make Lutsen and the surrounding area shine.
Deciding where to stay along Lake Superior can be a tough decision…there are many cozy rustic cabins, rental homes, lake-side cottages, family-owned resorts, B&Bs and hotel/motels. Then, are you looking for something more remote and off the beaten path, or would you prefer a place “on the lake.” Do you love rustic, require family-friendly and/or need a pet-friendly spot for Spot? And there’s cost, of course – how much per night, what are the add-ons, any discount deals, do they honor AAA, etc.? Caribou Highlands offers a wide range of lodging—from main lodge rooms, condos, townhomes and executive homes—and the resort features many amenities.
If you’re interested in reserving 142C, here are photos and details on the unit which sleeps 7, features a separate bedroom with a queen bed, a loft with a bunk bed, a sleeper sofa, two bathrooms and a full kitchen & dining space. The unit is also in the C building which houses the indoor pool, spacious hot tub and ping pong table. This is super convenient in the winter, just head down two flights of stairs to the pool area. The resort maintains a wonderful outdoor pool open in the summer <sigh>. Also 142C is on the ski hill at Lutsen Mountains for easy ski-in/ski-out access.
So, as you enter 142C, which is on the second level of the C building, you’ll see the kitchen, dining room, living room, main bathroom and closet.

The loft sleeps three guests and features a beautiful custom-made, hand built bunk bed with a double bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top. There’s also ample storage for games, books, art supplies and blankets. We worked with an amazing builder, Jim from J’s Woodworking based in Clearwater, MN, to create the piece to fit the loft. Read more about our weekend installation.

Below you’ll see photos of the master bedroom with a queen bed and storage options for guests. New windows were just installed (read, no drafty winds!) and we’re working on adding a bit more cozy/warmth to this room. For example, we just refinished the little grey dresser to offer a shelf & storage for incidentals. The bathroom photos below show the vanity and sink (left) in the upstairs area, the toilet and shower are in the next room over (not pictured). The bathroom photo to the right is the main bathroom on the first level.

From the deck, our unit overlooks Lutsen Mountain with a lovely vista of Moose Mountain (to the right in the photo below); and often you can see a slice of Lake Superior, which is about 1.5 miles down the hill from Caribou Highlands. 142C also overlooks the outdoor pool and community area with a playground, picnic tables, grill and tether ball.

We posted awhile ago about these deck chairs; click here to learn a bit more about them!
