Nestled just to the north of Lutsen, MN, there’s a treasure trove of made-from-the-heart art, collectibles, gifts & beautiful goods waiting to be discovered at Kah-Nee-Tah Gallery. Split into a charming two-building haven, this art playground features the works and wares of wonderful North Shore-based and regional artists. The welcoming gallery also offers hands-on painting and crafting workshops for wannabes like me. They even rent cabins near the shore, which are BFF approved for those of us with best furry friends in tow! You’ve got to see the depth of beauty and artistic talent on display at Kah-Nee-Tah Gallery…

The Sweetest Things

Instagram is such a magical thing. One day Kah-Nee-Tah’s wonderful operations wiz Dani and I were chatting via dm. She warmly invited me to stop in and see what’s new and exciting at the shop…little did I know the small yet vibrant gallery would hold so many original masterpieces in the way of naturally-breathtaking and beautiful photographs, distinct jewelry in a greatly appreciated price-range, hand-poured honey-scented beeswax candles, felted keepsakes stitched with love, vibrantly colored yarns, one-of-a-kind thrown pottery, Minn-spired paintings, and so much more. You get the picture!

Naturally Beautiful

This was my first trip to Kah-Nee-Tah. We’ve driven by the rustic-red cabins—now transformed into this museum-like space—many times. The gallery is located on Highway 61, 5 miles outside of Lutsen on the right hand side of the road. Exploring the shop, there are discoveries within every nook and cranny, along walls and nestled into corners. For example, these wonderful wooden clocks and hand-carved bowls caught my eye…

And, did I mention the jewelry..? If you’re looking for gift ideas for the upcoming holiday season, chances are you’ll have good luck here. Shopping may require a bit of willpower however; I had to use great restraint! But, I did find a birthday bracelet for my niece made by Raucous Jewelry’s Judith Christensen, and have a few ideas going for friends & family.

Simply lovely hand-made wearables!

There’s a rich history centered on the property. You can read here about the current owners’ commitment to the revival of this North Shore gem and learn a bit about the history and local legends that have called Kah-Nee-Tah home.

It’s quite amazing how many artists’ works are featured at Kah-Nee-Tah. From the outside of the structure, I’d have never imagined all the pieces of wonder on display right here in Lutsen, MN.

Kah-Nee-Tah literally translated means “Gift of the Gods” in Ojibwe. I’ll admit I’m not an expert in any way…this is me on google!
