Up, up and away! The wild blue yonder held beautiful vistas at Lutsen Mountains over MLK weekend.

Clear skies, favorable ski conditions and of course breathtaking views along every run. The last few years, January temps have been brutal – typical North Shore gales, biting wind chills in the minus 10s, 20s even 30s. This weekend, the tides turned and we warmed right up to best skiing in the Midwest! From blue runs to black, it was sunny and bright over Eagle, Moose and Ullr Mountains.eagle-view

Had to squeeze in a photo of the best ski companions on the slopes. E & E are right outside the C building at Caribou Highlands, which offers slick ski-in/ski-out access. Store your skis & poles in the outdoor lockers; once you’re suited up, it’s just a quick jaunt – about 100 meters to Bridge Run – to meet the mountain. Whether you prefer schussing out of the gate or opt for a more conservative snow plough, as long as you have your lift ticket you’re good to go!  It really streamlines the morning so there’s more time to practice vs. waiting in lines at the ticket office.

Moose Return loops around the hillside from Moose Mt. back to Bridge Lift. My favorite trail despite the fact it requires some poling at the very end of the run. Stopped here with hopes to capture a sunspot!

Wrapping up the day ala hiking with this furry guy. Lots of good sniffs! Happy trails!
